Venitia Sekema: Tunes
Forgotten Soldier

This song was written in the middle of the night, before the ballot count for the 2002 Presidential election was in. Bush had announced that he would be making cutbacks for veteran's health benefits if he won the election. I thought," that's a hell of a way to say thank you for their service to our country"
FORGOTTEN SOLDIER
Look at me, what do you see
I’m only half the man I used to be
Still fighting a war from years before
I’m only half the man I want to be
Late at night what do I dream
I dream of a time where I can be free
Of the tracer lights and the fire fight
That took from me the man I used to be
Tell me what could ever be
Worse than losing my dignity
To beg for the help I fought so hard for
I’m only half the man I used to be
Don’t feel sorry, don’t want your sympathy
For the loss of my limb or the pain in my heart
I just want to once again be
Again be the man I used to be
The VA clinic is a 90 mile drive
The soonest appointment is 6 months time
Cutbacks, kickbacks and private contracts
So I stand up today and strive
To not be a forgotten soldier
LEAD MUSIC*
Numb from the horror of all that I’ve seen
From the pain and the death on the DMZ
Crouched in this bunker sure I’m in hell
I’m only half the man I used to be
Look at me, what do you see
A cast off heap of war torn debris
How would I have known my country would leave one of there own
That I’d be seen as half the man I used to be
How would I have known my country would leave one of there own
Just another forgotten soldier
